For students who want to express their creativity while developing their artistic skills. Using charcoal, pencil, pastel, acrylic and watercolor, students will be introduced to a wide range of possibilities, themes and techniques.

Learn freehand, stenciled, stamped and masked painting techniques used to make functional, one of a kind floorcloths and placemats.

Jewelry: Introduction to Precious Metal Clay
PMC is a smooth clay like material that can be formed using the simplest of tools, which after firing yields a finished object of pure silver which can further be worked with basic jewelry techniques. Participants will use PMC to make rings, beads, hollow formed pendants, to set stones and more.
Materials & basic tool kit will be available for purchase from instructor at class.

Jewelry: Precious Metal Clay Certification
Learn how to work this amazing clay-like material into beautiful pure silver jewelry. In this three day intensive workshop, participants will use PMC to make a series of seven projects using stamping, carving & moldmaking to create rings, beads, hollow formed pendants, set stones & more. Students who complete the program will be awarded a certificate, receive a one year membership to the PMC Guild and enrolled in the Rio Rewards program.

Watercolor Painting
Learn the foundations, techniques & materials used in working with this expressive and spontaneous medium. Beginners will work from still lifes with an emphasis on color mixing and composition, intermediate & advanced students will receive guidance with independently chosen projects.

Drawing: Pastel Workshop
Pastel is a versatile medium that utilizes the best of aspects of both drawing & painting. Beginners will learn basic techniques, & also some more advanced techniques for the more advanced student. We will also explore how to create harmony by using dark and light shapes, making the most of values, using compliments & creating beautiful layered color.

Credit Courses for Educators
The Professional Institute for Educators from The University of the Arts (PIE) enhances the teaching skills of K-12 educators by providing non-matriculated graduate-level credit courses for professional development, PA Act 48 and personal enrichment.
Courses are designed for all inclusive weekend sessions at multiple locations to serve the needs of educators.

Tuition for The University of the Arts Professional Institute for Educators spring courses at The Arts is $895 for a three-credit course plus any applicable fees.
